How we rate events

Every event gets one of four labels. CRIT: mass-casualty events, M7+ earthquakes, or a sharp escalation. HIGH: deadly attacks, M6+ quakes, a chokepoint at high risk. MED: notable events with limited impact. LOW: routine events. The label is always written out, so colour is never the only signal.

Questions and answers

What is the best live war map?
It depends on what you need. Front-line maps such as DeepStateMap cover one war in detail. Liveuamap tags news reports on a map. MonitorWorld shows every conflict with UCDP data, military aircraft, earthquakes and chokepoints on one map, with a severity label on each event and push alerts in the app.
Where is war happening right now?
In the latest UCDP data the most deadly conflicts were in Ukraine, Yemen, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sudan. The current wars page lists all 44 countries with recorded events, with fatality estimates.
What is a global conflict tracker?
A global conflict tracker puts conflict events, military activity and related signals from many sources on one map, so you can see where violence is happening and how it changes. MonitorWorld adds earthquakes, chokepoints and a risk index, and rates every event as CRIT, HIGH, MED or LOW.
How often is the live map updated?
The page data is rebuilt every 10 minutes. Earthquakes come from USGS within minutes; military aircraft are shown with at least 20 minutes of delay; media reports refresh every 10 to 15 minutes; UCDP conflict events are published monthly, so they always show the last complete month.
Where does the data come from?
USGS for earthquakes, adsb.lol (ODbL) for aircraft, the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (CC BY 4.0) for conflict events, GDELT and public news feeds for media reports, and MonitorWorld's own models for the risk index and chokepoint status. Every page lists its sources; see data sources and method.
