Key context

How to tell if it is you or the internet

Why one company can take down thousands of sites

Most websites and apps do not run their own servers. They rent them from a few clouds (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) and sit behind a few CDNs (Cloudflare, Akamai). When one of these has a fault, every customer fails at once. On 20 October 2025 a DNS fault in AWS's N. Virginia region broke Snapchat, Fortnite, Roblox and banks for hours (AWS). On 18 November 2025 a bad file at Cloudflare took down X, ChatGPT and many other sites (Cloudflare).

None of these big outages was an attack, according to the providers. See the internet outage map for the full list of 2025-2026 outages with dates and sources.

What we check, and what we do not

We read the official status pages of 23 services every 5 minutes and show each provider's own words, with a link. When a status page itself is down, the row says "status unknown".

We do not have data from home internet providers (ISPs) such as Comcast Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T or BT, and we do not collect user reports. If your own connection is down and every service here is fine, the fault is most likely on your side or with your ISP: check your ISP's outage page or app.

Questions and answers

Is the internet down right now?
No. As of 12:38 UTC, 21 of the 23 big clouds, CDNs and apps we check report normal operation on their official status pages; Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services (AWS) report a minor issue. If your connection is down, the cause is most likely local.
Is it just me, or is the internet down?
Run the test at the top of this page. If Google, Cloudflare, Amazon, Microsoft and Wikipedia all answer, your connection works and the problem is with one site or app: check its row in the status list. If none answer, the problem is your device, Wi-Fi, router or internet provider.
Is Cloudflare down?
As of 12:38 UTC, Cloudflare's status page says "Partial System Outage" (minor issue on our scale). Cloudflare runs a large network of data centres, so a few are often re-routed for maintenance; that is normal. When Cloudflare has a real outage, many websites show a Cloudflare error page at the same time, as on 18 November 2025.
Is AWS down?
As of 12:38 UTC the AWS Health Dashboard shows: Long-running disruption in UAE (me-central-1) and Bahrain (me-south-1); no other open events. Since 1 March 2026 AWS has reported a disruption in its UAE (me-central-1) and Bahrain (me-south-1) regions, which were damaged during the Iran war; that does not affect apps hosted in other regions. The last big AWS outage was in N. Virginia (us-east-1) on 20 October 2025.
Why does my internet keep going down?
Repeated drops usually come from Wi-Fi interference, an old or overheating router, a loose cable, or a fault on your provider's line. Restart the router, move closer to it or use a cable, and check whether the drops happen on every device. If they do, call your provider: they can test the line.
How do I check if my internet provider has an outage?
Open your provider's app or outage page, or call its support line; providers post local outages there first. Crowd-report sites can also help. MonitorWorld does not have data from home internet providers, only from the big services listed on this page.
