# Ukraine War Map: Live Conflict Events and News

Updated 10:16 UTC, 29 Oct 2026. Canonical: https://monitorworld.app/live/ukraine-war-map

UCDP recorded **251 armed-conflict events in Ukraine** (30 Aug 2026 to 30 Sep 2026), with 6,219 deaths reported by UCDP, which makes it the deadliest war in its latest data. Our risk score for Ukraine is 60/100. As of October 2026 there is no ceasefire; US-mediated talks continue. The map shows where events were recorded, not today's front line: we never publish live positions in Ukraine, which Ukrainian law also forbids.

### The war in short

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and backed separatist forces in Donetsk and Luhansk; on 24 February 2022 it launched a full-scale invasion. Ukraine pushed Russian forces back from Kyiv in 2022 and retook parts of Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Since then the front has moved slowly in the east and south, with the heaviest fighting in Donetsk region, and both sides strike each other's cities, energy systems and logistics with missiles and drones. Russian forces took Pokrovsk in Donetsk region after a battle of about two years; the ISW assessed in February 2026 that the capture was likely complete (reported by [Euromaidan Press](https://euromaidanpress.com/2026/02/26/russia-appears-to-have-seized-pokrovsk-after-two-year-battle/)).

As of October 2026 there is no ceasefire and no peace deal. US-mediated talks continue: US envoy Steve Witkoff met Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on 21 October 2026, after talks with Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Oslo (reported by [Reuters](https://www.internazionale.it/ultime-notizie-reuters/2026/10/21/us-envoy-witkoff-arrives-in-st-petersburg-for-talks-with-putin) and [Ukrainska Pravda](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/10/21/8059029/)). Check the dated reports on this page for the latest.

Crimea and other occupied areas are internationally recognised as part of Ukraine; Russia claims to have annexed them. We use the internationally recognised borders and neutral place names.

### Ukraine frontline map: why we do not draw the front line

Front-line maps rely on battlefield reports that change daily, and Ukraine bans publishing the locations of strikes, air-defence activity and troop positions in real time. We show UCDP events, which are published monthly and verified, plus today's news headlines. The events on our map cluster along the front, so they show where the fighting is without plotting positions.

For a daily front-line map, these are the sources analysts use. Each one makes its own assessment, so compare them:

- [Institute for the Study of War (ISW)](https://understandingwar.org/): daily assessments and the interactive map of Russia's invasion.
- [DeepStateMap](https://deepstatemap.live/): a Ukrainian volunteer project that maps the front line and occupied areas.
- [ACLED Ukraine Conflict Monitor](https://acleddata.com/): verified conflict events with a weekly update.
- [International Crisis Group](https://www.crisisgroup.org/): a map of front-line changes and analysis.

## FAQ

### Is there a ceasefire in Ukraine?

No. As of October 2026 there is no ceasefire or peace deal. US envoy Steve Witkoff met Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on 21 October 2026 for talks on the war (reported by Reuters), and Ukraine has said it is ready to stop at the current front line, which Russia rejects. The dated reports at the top of this page show the latest.

### Where is the front line in Ukraine now?

The front runs about 1,200 km, by the count of Ukraine's commander-in-chief in February 2026, from Kharkiv region in the north-east through Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions to the Dnipro river in Kherson region. We do not draw it live; the ISW and DeepStateMap publish daily assessments. Our map shows UCDP-recorded events, which cluster along the front.

### Is there a live Ukraine frontline map?

Not on this page, by design: we do not publish troop positions or a live front line. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and DeepStateMap publish daily front-line maps, and ACLED publishes verified events every week; links are in the section above. Our map shows the conflict events UCDP recorded, which cluster along the front.

### What is happening in Ukraine today?

The latest report on this page (09:50 UTC, IAEA) is: "Update 372 – IAEA Director General Statement on Situation in Ukraine". Read several sources before you draw conclusions.

### How many people have died in the Ukraine war?

UCDP reports 6,219 deaths from 251 events in its latest window (30 Aug 2026 to 30 Sep 2026) (best estimate). For the whole war, the UN human rights monitoring mission counts verified civilian deaths, and military losses are estimated by governments; the numbers differ widely and we do not add them together.

### Why don't you show live strikes or air-raid alerts?

Publishing strike locations and air-defence activity in real time can help the attacker and is banned under Ukrainian law. For air-raid alerts in Ukraine, use the official Air Alert app (Povitryana Tryvoha).
